AC drain line and float switch repair in Phoenix.
The most common reason a Valley system quietly stops: a plugged drain and the switch that shut it down.
An air conditioner pulls water out of the air. It runs into a pan under the indoor coil and leaves through a PVC drain line. When that line plugs, the water has to go somewhere.
Most Valley systems have a float switch that catches it first. The water rises, the switch cuts the system, and the house just gets warmer with nothing obviously wrong. That is the switch doing its job: it picked an uncomfortable afternoon over a collapsed ceiling.
So if your AC is dead and everything else looks normal, the drain is the first place to look. A wet vacuum on the outdoor stub clears a good share of plugs.
When it does not, the line gets cleared and flushed, the switch gets tested, and a condensate pump, if you have one, gets checked too. Each is a flat price on the list.
When to call.
- AC dead with power at the thermostat
- Water in the drain pan or on the closet floor
- Drip from the backup line over a window
- Water stain on the ceiling under an attic unit
- Outdoor drain stub dry on a hot day
- Condensate pump running nonstop or not at all
What you get.
- Drain line cleared and flushed end to end
- Float switch tested, replaced if it is stuck
- Condensate pump reservoir checked and cleared
- System run to confirm water is leaving
Common questions.
Can I bypass the float switch to get the AC back?
Please do not. It is the only thing between a plugged drain and your ceiling. Clear the drain instead, or call.
How do I stop it happening again?
Vinegar down the access tee every couple of months through the season mostly prevents the next one. A tune-up flushes the line too.
What is a condensate pump?
Where water cannot run downhill to the outside, a small pump lifts it out. When its reservoir fouls or its float sticks, water backs up the same way a plugged line does.

Water on the floor, or an AC that shuts itself off.
A ceiling stain, a wet closet floor, or a system that quits with no fault code. Usually the drain, not the AC.

Water at a vent is not condensation on the grille. Something upstream is overflowing.

No air, no hum, nothing. Four of the five causes cost nothing to rule out.
