AC diagnostic in Phoenix, $140 flat.

For a system that is not running right. Finding the fault, with the readings to show for it.

A diagnostic is for a system that is not doing its job. It might be dead, it might be running without cooling, or it might quit every afternoon and come back at night. Either way the visit starts with measuring, not guessing.

Most of the time the fault is one of a short list: a capacitor, a contactor, a plugged drain tripping the float switch, or a coil so packed with dust it cannot shed heat. Each of those has a flat price on the list, so once the fault is found you know the whole number on the spot.

If it is bigger than a small repair, you hear that straight too, with the readings to back it up. Work over the $1,000 ceiling, replacements and anything needing a permit get pointed to a licensed Arizona contractor.

Before you book, it is worth ten minutes with the not cooling and won’t turn on guides. Some of the causes cost nothing to check yourself.

When to call.

  • Running, but the house will not cool
  • Blowing warm air from the vents
  • Outdoor unit hums but will not start
  • Breaker trips in the afternoon
  • Short cycling: on, off, on again
  • Dead at the thermostat with nothing else wrong

What you get.

  • Pressures, temperatures and the split across the indoor coil
  • Voltage and amp draw on the compressor, condenser fan and blower
  • Capacitor microfarads against the rating on the can
  • Contactor, float switch and drain checked
  • The fault found, and the repair price before anything is touched
  • A written record of the readings and photos, yours to keep

Common questions.

Does the diagnostic come off the repair?

No. The diagnostic pays for finding the problem, so it is its own line. The repair is a separate flat price from the list, and you hear it before any work starts.

What if it turns out to be something simple?

Then that is all you hear, and you pay for the visit. Plenty of no-cooling calls end at a plugged drain line or a filter that is two years overdue.

My system is running fine. Do I need this?

No. A system that is running gets a check-up instead, which is a full read on where it stands for less.
